Rural Libraries and English Language Learners

with Dr. Carmel Murphy

Friday, February 2nd  from 9:30-11:30

Biography

An EL teacher from the Forest Lake School District, Dr. Murphy Carmel is a passionate library supporter. Her doctoral research was focused on rural libraries and schools and the non-English speaking families they serve. We're sure her insights will inspire and empower you!

You’ll leave this session with:

  • Increased understanding of what parents of EL children want from rural libraries.

  • Greater knowledge of the research being done in this area.

  • Several articles for later reading related to the topic.

  • Connections with other library staff who, like you, work with non-English speakers in rural libraries.

A portion of the session will be focused on discussing your ideas and questions about how to best serve our non-English speaking patrons.

Virtual attendance will be via Zoom, but session will not be recorded. CEUs available.

This project is funded in part with a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education using federal funding CFDA 45.310 Library Services and Technology Act, Grants to State Programs (LS-25363-OLS-23)
